Oh my god guys you will NOT believe what happened at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai! Italy, yes ITALY the country that makes pizza and pasta and has that leaning tower, they just CRUSHED Nepal in the T20 World Cup! And it was not even close! They beat them by 10 wickets which is like winning a race by a whole lap! This is Italy’s first-ever win in the whole history of T20 World Cup and everyone is going crazy.
So here is what happened. Nepal came into this match feeling super confident because they almost beat ENGLAND in their last game! Like they came so close to defeating one of the best teams in the world and everyone was saying “oh Nepal is so good, they will definitely beat Italy easy easy.” But cricket is a funny game my dad always says. And guess what? Italy said “HOLD MY PIZZA” and just demolished them.
First, Italy won the toss and their captain Harry Manenti (because the real captain Wayne Madsen got a hurty shoulder and couldn’t play) said “we will bowl first” . And oh my god what a good decision that was! Their bowlers was like snakes – so tricky and turny and the Nepal batsmen had no idea what to do.
There was this spinner named Crishan Kalugamage and he was UNPLAYABLE. He took three wickets and only gave 18 runs in his four overs ! He got the Nepal captain Rohit Paudel out and also got Dipendra Singh Airee bowled with a wrong-un that crashed into the stumps. A wrong-un is like a magic ball that goes the opposite way you think! So cool.
And then there was Ben Manenti. Oh. My. Goodness. This guy bowled four overs and only gave NINE runs and took two wickets ! That is like giving away only two chocolates from a whole box! His economy was 2.25 which is CRAZY good in T20 cricket where everyone hits sixes normally. He completely strangled Nepal like a python.
The other spinner JJ Smuts also got one wicket and all the Italian fielders was catching everything and throwing super fast. They even ran out one Nepal batsman with a direct hit! It was like watching a superhero movie but with cricket.
Nepal’s batting just collapsed like a house of cards. Only Aasif Sheikh made 27 runs and the captain made 23 but nobody else did anything good. They kept losing wickets and looking confused. The whole team got out for only 123 runs in 19.3 overs . Their fans was so quiet and sad. I felt a little bad for them but also WOW ITALY.

Now comes the best part. Italy needed 124 runs to win. And they had two brothers opening the batting – Anthony Mosca and Justin Mosca! They are from Sydney, Australia but they play for Italy because of their Italian family. And guess what? THEY WENT CRAZY.
Anthony Mosca is the older brother and he was like a HULK with a bat. He smashed 62 runs from only 32 balls! That is like scoring a run every two seconds! He hit SIX sixes and three fours! SIX SIXES people! The ball went flying out of the stadium like it was launched from a cannon.
His younger brother Justin was also amazing. He scored 60 runs from 44 balls and hit three sixes and five fours. Together they put on 124 runs and nobody got out! ITALY WON BY 10 WICKETS! That means they didn’t lose a single batsman. That’s like winning a video game without losing a life.
The best part? They chased the runs in only 12.4 overs! They had 7.2 overs LEFT! Nepal didn’t know what hit them. By the time they brought in their best bowler Sandeep Lamichhane (who plays in IPL you know!), the Mosca brothers had already smashed 58 runs and the match was basically over . Too late, Nepal! Too late.
So Many Records Broken!
This match was not just a win – it was HISTORY! Let me tell you all the records:
Italy got their FIRST-EVER victory in T20 World Cup history! Ever ever ever!
It was Italy’s first 10-wicket win in T20 World Cups!
The Mosca brothers opening partnership is the HIGHEST partnership between brothers in all T20 internationals. They beat the old record of 119 runs.
Italy’s 68 runs in powerplay was the THIRD HIGHEST by an Associate team in T20 World Cup history.
Ben Manenti’s bowling figures is the FOURTH MOST ECONOMICAL by an Associate bowler in T20 World Cups.
And guess who won Player of the Match? It was Crishan Kalugamage, the leg-spinner who took 3 wickets for 18 runs! He broke the back of Nepal’s batting and totally deserved the award ! Also fun fact – when he is not bowling, he tosses pizza in Italy! Seriously! He works at a pizza place in Lucca! That is so cool.
After the match, stand-in captain Harry Manenti (Ben’s brother) was so happy. He said, “When we qualified, that was a special moment, but our goal was always to compete at this level and we showed that today. We showed the world what we got.” Awwww yeah they did!
The Italy coach John Davison said something so funny. He said, “This will be front-page news in a lot of countries and a lot of publications in Italy. We’ll probably knock the Winter Olympics coverage to the back pages.” Because Italy is hosting Winter Olympics right now! But cricket is stealing the show! Haha!

So now Italy has one win and one loss in the tournament. They lost their first game to Scotland by 73 runs but now they is BACK BABY! . Nepal has lost both their matches and is at the bottom of the group table . So sad for them but that’s cricket.
Italy’s next match is on February 16 against ENGLAND at Eden Gardens in Kolkata! That is gonna be SO HARD because England is super strong. But after this win, maybe Italy can do something special again? And Nepal will try to bounce back against West Indies on February 15 in Mumbai .
At the same time, attention has shifted to other global leagues where on-field performance remains the sole focus. Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s strong run at the top of the SA20 points table, driven by crucial bonus wins, highlights how franchise cricket elsewhere continues to thrive amid stability and sporting clarity.

You know what I think? This is why I LOVE cricket. A team nobody expected to win, a team playing their first World Cup ever, with two brothers batting together and spinners bowling like legends – they just went out and made history. No big stars, no IPL contracts, just heart and hard work. And pizza probably. They definitely ate pizza after winning.
My friend said Italy is only good at football but I said NO WAY! They is good at cricket now too! Maybe one day Italy will be as famous for cricket as they are for spaghetti. Okay maybe not but a boy can dream!
Anyway this was the best match of the World Cup so far. Better than India-Pakistan drama (sorry not sorry). Italy showed that cricket is growing everywhere and anyone can win on their day. That’s beautiful man.
