Rohit recalls memories of India-Pakistan contests at T20WC

India-Pakistan rivalry is the BEST thing in cricket. And who better to tell us stories than ROHIT SHARMA? He is now an ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2026, and he shared some AMAZING memories from all the India-Pakistan matches he played in. From the 2007 final to 2022 Kohli magic, Rohit told everything. Let me share all his stories.

Rohit Played EVERY India-Pakistan Match

Guess what? Until the 2026 match (which India won by 61 runs), Rohit Sharma played in EVERY SINGLE India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match. That’s CRAZY. From being a young player in 2007 to captain in 2022 and 2024, he saw it ALL.

Now he is the 2026 ambassador, and looking back at all those amazing matches. Let’s hear what he said.

Favourite Match: 2007 Final "Nothing Can Beat That"

Rohit’s FAVOURITE India-Pakistan match is the 2007 T20 World Cup FINAL. India won by 5 runs in Johannesburg and became the first T20 World Cup champions.

Rohit said: “My favourite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan was definitely the final we played, nothing can beat that. We went on to win the World Cup.”

Can you imagine? Young Rohit, just 20 years old, won the World Cup. So special.

The BOWL-OUT Match

India and Pakistan played TWICE in 2007. Before the final, they had a league match that ENDED IN A TIE. And guess how they decided the winner? BOWL-OUT. That’s like a penalty shootout in football but with bowlers aiming at stumps.

India practiced bowl-outs in training, and it PAID OFF. Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Robin Uthappa hit stumps. Pakistan’s bowlers all missed. India won.

Rohit recalled: “In that same year (2007), we also played a league game against Pakistan, which was the only match in the tournament decided by a bowl-out, and we came out on top there as well. So in 2007, both World Cup games were special.”

2022 MCG: Rohit Got NERVOUS

Now comes the 2022 T20 World Cup match at the MCG in Australia. India vs Pakistan at the BIGGEST stadium. 90,000 fans. CRAZY atmosphere.

But India started BADLY. They lost 4 wickets for only 31 runs. Rohit got out early for 4 runs. He went to the dressing room, then came out to watch, then got SO NERVOUS he went BACK inside.

Rohit shared honestly: “Yeah, I was in the dressing room. Then I came out, but I got nervous and went back inside. When games are this tight, especially when you’re off the field and know you can’t do anything, it just takes that sense of control away from you, and I felt helpless. You actually do feel helpless watching the game unfold when you can’t do anything about it.”

That’s SO real. Even great players get nervous watching.

Virat Kohli's "BLINDER" Innings

Then came VIRAT KOHLI. India needed 160 runs. At 31/4, it looked IMPOSSIBLE. But Kohli played the most AMAZING innings. He scored 82 not out from 53 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes.

In the 19th over, Haris Rauf bowled. Kohli hit TWO SIXES, one over long-on, one over fine leg. The crowd went CRAZY. Last over, Mohammad Nawaz is bowling. Kohli hit a SIX off a no-ball. India won with 1 ball left.

Rohit said, “Kohli played a blinder there. That was again very, very special to watch because we were in no position to win that game, especially after how we started.”

He called it “one of the greatest cricket games we’ve ever played because of the occasion.”

2024 Final: India Champions Again

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan played in the group stage in New York. India won by 6 runs in another thriller. But Rohit wasn’t talking about that match much – probably because the FINAL against South Africa was even bigger. India won that final and became champions.

Rohit captained India to victory in 2024. That was his SECOND T20 World Cup win (first was 2007 as a player). He is the ONLY Indian player to win TWO T20 World Cups.

Rohit on NERVES Before Every Match

Even after playing 160 T20 Internationals for India, Rohit still gets NERVOUS before every match. He said something really beautiful:

“I’ve played 160 T20 Internationals for India. I don’t remember a single game where I wasn’t nervous. I was nervous for each and every game. That feeling gives me nervousness, and I don’t think that as long as I’m holding this bat, going out there and taking the field, that feeling will ever go away.”

He says nerves are GOOD. “It stays with me. And that feeling means you still want to go out there, play the game, and give your best.”

That’s so inspiring. Even legends get nervous, but they use it to perform better.

India-Pakistan Rivalry Numbers

In T20 World Cups, India has DOMINATED. After the 2026 win:

Tournament Matches India Wins Pakistan Wins
T20 World Cup 9 8 1
All World Cups (ODI + T20) 17 16 1

Pakistan’s only win was in the 2021 T20 World Cup by 10 wickets. But India bounced back STRONG.

Rohit's Legacy

Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup win. He finished as:

  1. 2nd highest run-scorer in T20I history (3,853 runs)
  2. Most T20I centuries (5)
  3. Only player to win 50 matches as captain in T20Is
  4. Only Indian with TWO T20 World Cup wins

He is truly a LEGEND.

Current India Team in 2026

Now in 2026, Suryakumar Yadav is the captain. India beat Pakistan by 61 runs in the group stage, then beat the West Indies to reach the semi-finals. They play England on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit is watching as an ambassador, cheering for the team. He said in an interview: “This team has amazing talent. They can win the World Cup again.”

At the same time, attention has shifted to other global leagues where on-field performance remains the sole focus. Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s strong run at the top of the SA20 points table, driven by crucial bonus wins, highlights how franchise cricket elsewhere continues to thrive amid stability and sporting clarity.

My Thoughts

You know what I think? Rohit Sharma’s stories made me cry happy tears. From 2007 young boy to 2024 champion captain, his journey is INCREDIBLE.

The 2022 Kohli innings is my FAVOURITE. I was jumping on the sofa when Kohli hit those sixes. My mom shouted “CHUP,” but I didn’t care.

Now India is in the semi-finals again. They play England on March 5 at Wankhede. If they win, they go to the FINAL on March 8 at Ahmedabad.

Can India win the third T20 World Cup? I BELIEVE.

Let’s go to India. Let’s make Rohit proud.
