Sanju Samson likely to replace Abhishek Sharma in must-win clash against Zimbabwe

Sanju Samson likely to replace Abhishek Sharma in must-win clash against Zimbabw

The biggest decision of India’s T20 World Cup campaign is happening RIGHT NOW! Sanju Samson is likely to REPLACE Abhishek Sharma in the playing XI for the MUST-WIN match against Zimbabwe on Thursday! Abhishek has scored THREE DUCKS in the tournament, and India is in BIG trouble! Let me explain everything!

What Happened to Abhishek?

Abhishek Sharma is the World No. 1 T20I batter, but in THIS World Cup, he has been… oh no… TERRIBLE! He has scored THREE ducks in four matches! Against Pakistan – ZERO! Against the Netherlands – ZERO! Against South Africa – ZERO! That’s SO sad!

Abhishek was sick before the tournament (stomach bug, hospital, all that) and hasn’t found momentum since. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said, “Abhishek has been out for a duck three times. His health was a concern earlier, and after that, he hasn’t found momentum.”

In the last match vs South Africa, Abhishek looked good for a few balls, but then got out! So frustrating!

Why Might Sanju Samson Play?

India has a BIG problem – SIX left-handers in the top eight! That’s too many lefties! Opposition teams are bowling OFF-SPIN and India is struggling!

Kotak admitted: “There can be changes, yes. We do discuss these things. We have two left-handed openers and a left-hander at number three, and opposition teams are using off-spinners.”

Sanju Samson is RIGHT-HANDED! He can break the lefty chain and make the batting order BALANCED! He also plays for Chennai Super Kings in IPL, so he KNOWS Chepauk pitch very well! Homecoming for Sanju!

What Did Kotak Say About Changes?

Kotak was very honest in the press conference! He said:

“Yes, there can be changes. It goes without saying that we discussed [team combination]. The opposition is bowling off-spin because our openers and No. 3 are lefties. I don’t think that there is any problem there either. But because we lost the last game and we have lost a wicket in the first over [often], any team would think [along those lines].”

That means – YES, they are THINKING about changes! But he didn’t confirm anything!

About Abhishek, Kotak said: “I never liked overthinking about one individual as we are playing with two all-rounders and six batters.”  So he doesn’t want to blame only Abhishek!

Who Will Make Way for Sanju?

This is the BIG question! Who gets dropped?

Option 1: Abhishek Sharma OUT, Sanju IN at Opening

Abhishek has three ducks, so this makes SENSE!

Ishan Kishan can move to No. 3 (where he scored a century vs NZ last month!)

Sanju opens – he has opened before in build-up matches!

Option 2: Rinku Singh OUT, Sanju IN at Middle Order

Rinku has struggled too – scores of 6, 1, 11, 6, and 0 in the tournament!

But Rinku had a family emergency – father is unwell with stage-4 liver cancer. He went home but expected to be back on Wednesday evening

Maybe they can rest Rinku so he can be with his family?

Option 3: Tilak Varma OUT, Sanju IN at No. 3

Tilak has been consistent but slow strike rate

Sanju at No. 3 could work!

Most experts think ABHISHEK will be dropped and SANJU will open!

Other Changes Coming?

Axar Patel is DEFINITELY coming back! He was dropped for the South Africa match (they played Washington Sundar instead), but that was a BIG mistake! Axar is the vice-captain and gives control of the ball and power with the bat!

Kuldeep Yadav might also play! Chepauk pitch helps spinners, and Kuldeep is a wicket-taker!

Predicted XI according to reports: Abhishek/Sanju, Sanju/Ishan, Ishan, Suryakumar, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep/Washington, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah

At the same time, attention has shifted to other global leagues where on-field performance remains the sole focus. Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s strong run at the top of the SA20 points table, driven by crucial bonus wins, highlights how franchise cricket elsewhere continues to thrive amid stability and sporting clarity.

Why is this match so important?

India LOST to South Africa by 76 runs in the first Super 8 match. That was India’s HEAVIEST defeat in T20 World Cup history!

Now India’s Net Run Rate is NEGATIVE -3.80! That’s BAD!

To qualify for the semi-finals, India MUST:

  1. Beat Zimbabwe on Feb 26 (Chennai) – WIN BY BIG MARGIN!
  2. Beat West Indies on Mar 1 (Kolkata) – WIN BY BIG MARGIN!
  3. Hope South Africa beats West Indies (helps India!)
  4. Pray NRR works out!

Kotak said, “For us, every match is a must-win from here. If you want to win the World Cup, you have to be ready to beat every side you face.”

What About Zimbabwe?

the group stage! They reached Super 8 by upsetting everyone!

Captain Sikandar Raza is a superstar all-rounder! They have Blessing Muzarabani (tall fast bowler) and Richard Ngarava (left-arm fast). Their spinners will target India’s lefties!

Zimbabwe also lost badly to the West Indies (by 107 runs), so they are also HUNGRY for a win!

Chepauk Pitch Report

Good news! Chepauk pitch is BATTING FRIENDLY in this World Cup!

Batting average at Chepauk: 32 (highest of all venues!)

Teams have scored 170+ in ALL six matches here!

Two evening matches had scores of 200 and 196!

Fast bowlers are struggling – spinners have a lower average, but batters can score!

So India can score BIG runs and improve NRR! Perfect for Sanju Samson style!

My Thoughts

You know what I think? India SHOULD play Sanju Samson! Abhishek is a great player, but THREE ducks are too many! He needs rest and confidence! Sanju is fresh and hungry!

Also, Axar MUST play! Dropping him for the SA match was a mistake! He brings balance!

India can STILL qualify! Win both matches by big margins, hope other results go right! It’s possible!
