Do you know who has the second-most sixes for India in this T20 World Cup? Is it Ishan Kishan? NO. Sanju Samson? He is 16, so TOP. Hardik Pandya? Maybe. Suryakumar Yadav? Could be.
The answer is… SHIVAM DUBE.
He has hit 15 sixes in the tournament. That’s MORE than Ishan Kishan (12) and Suryakumar (11). Only Sanju Samson (16) has more.
But when you think of India’s batting stars, do you think of SHIVAM DUBE first? Probably NOT. And that’s exactly how his career has been – QUIET but IMPORTANT. Let me tell you all about India’s forgotten hero.
Shivam Dube is a TALL left-handed batter from Mumbai. He is 6’4″ (that’s VERY tall) and can hit SIXES really far. He also bowls medium pace sometimes.
He first played for India in 2019 but got dropped. Then he came back in 2023 and has been AMAZING since. But still nobody talks about him.
Dube’s Numbers in This World Cup
Let me show you his STATS – they are CRAZY good.
| Stat | Number |
| Runs | 200+ |
| Average | Close to 35 |
| Strike Rate | Around 160 |
| Sixes | 15 (2nd most for India) |
| Highest Score | 66 vs Netherlands |
These numbers would make any TOP-ORDER batter proud. But Dube bats at No. 5,6,7 – different positions every match.
India kept SHUFFLING batting order, and Dube played wherever they asked:
3 times at No. 6
2 times at No. 5
1 time at No. 4
1 time at No. 7
Imagine your teacher making you sit in a different seat every day – back row, front row, middle – and still you do well in the exam. That’s Dube.

Let me tell you about all the times Dube helped India win – and nobody noticed.
Match 1: vs Namibia
India was batting. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar scored 37 runs in 34 balls. Dube came at No. 6 and scored 23 runs in 16 balls. Not huge, but he pushed innings forward so Hardik could come and smash 52. Nobody remembered Dube.
Match 2: vs Pakistan
Ishan Kishan scored 77 runs and got all the attention. But after he got out, India was 126/4 and needed a push. Dube scored 27 runs in 17 balls. India reached 175. After the match, everyone praised the spinners. Dube has forgotten again.
Match 3: vs Netherlands
THIS was Dube’s BEST innings. On a difficult pitch where NO other Indian batter crossed 35, Dube scored 66 runs in 31 balls with 6 sixes. He almost single-handedly took India to a winning total (India won by 17 runs). But it was “just a match against the Netherlands,” so nobody cared.
Match 4: vs West Indies
This was like QUARTER-FINAL. India needed 196 to win. Last 10 balls, 17 runs needed. Dube came in. First ball – BOUNDARY off yorker through midwicket. Next ball – ANOTHER BOUNDARY between backward points. Pressure gone. Sanju Samson then finished the match with 97 not out and got all the praise.
But guess what? Coach Gautam Gambhir and Jasprit Bumrah BOTH said after the match: “Dube’s two boundaries were CRUCIAL.” Finally, someone noticed.
Match 5: vs England (Semi-Final)
India promoted Dube to No. 4. England’s best bowler, Adil Rashid (leg-spinner) was bowling. Dube SMASHED him for THREE sixes. 43 runs in 25 balls. England had no answer. India reached the final.
This isn’t NEW for Dube. He has been doing this for YEARS.
2024 T20 World Cup Final vs South Africa:
India was 106/4 in the 14th over. Virat Kohli scored 76 (slow but steady). Axar Patel got 47 (got attention). Dube scored 27 in 16 balls with 2 sixes in the last overs. India reached 176 and won by 7 runs. Nobody remembered Dube.
2025 Asia Cup Final vs Pakistan:
India is chasing 147. 20/3 oh no. 77/4 when Dube came. Tilak Varma scored 69 and got all the praise. But Dube hit two SIXES off Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf that RELEASED PRESSURE. Without those, Tilak couldn’t finish. Nobody remembered Dube.
Dube With Ball Also
Dube has taken 5 wickets in this World Cup too. In the semi-final vs England, captain Surya gave him the last over with 30 runs to defend. He conceded 23 – but the match was already won. No panic.
Gautam Gambhir (Coach): “Shivam’s contributions often go unnoticed, but within the team, we know his value. Those two boundaries vs West Indies changed the match.”
Jasprit Bumrah: “People see sixes and fours. We see the MOMENT when he plays them. Dube understands the match situation perfectly.”
Ravi Shastri: “Tall man, big hits, calm mind. He is India’s secret weapon.”
Dube’s Career Since Comeback (Aug 2023)
Since returning to the team in 2023:
And remember – Dube bats at No.5-7, while others bat in the top order. That makes his stats even MORE impressive.

Maybe because India has SO MANY stars:
Dube just quietly does his job and disappears. Like a NINJA.
Coach Gambhir said, “If nobody is asking where Shivam Dube is, it usually means he has already done his job.”
That’s a PERFECT description.
At the same time, attention has shifted to other global leagues where on-field performance remains the sole focus. Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s strong run at the top of the SA20 points table, driven by crucial bonus wins, highlights how franchise cricket elsewhere continues to thrive amid stability and sporting clarity.
Sunrisers Supreme: SEC Move Top of SA20 Table with Back-to-Back Bonus Point Wins
India plays New Zealand in the FINAL on Sunday at Ahmedabad. New Zealand’s bowlers – Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner – are dangerous.
Will Dube play another QUIET but IMPORTANT innings? Will he hit more sixes? Will anyone notice?
I think YES. Dube will do his job. Maybe nobody will remember. But India will WIN.
You know what I think? Shivam Dube is my FAVORITE unsung hero. He doesn’t seek attention, doesn’t give big interviews, doesn’t post drama on social media. He just PLAYS CRICKET and WINS MATCHES.
