What are Pakistan's qualification chances at T20 World Cup after India defeat?

The big India vs Pakistan match happened on Sunday and it was SUPPOSED to be super close and exciting but instead it was like… a TOTAL disaster for Pakistan! India won by 61 runs and it wasn’t even that close! Pakistan made so many mistakes and now they are in BIG trouble for qualifying to the next round! Let me explain everything like my teacher explains math but more fun!

What Happened in the Match?

So Pakistan won the toss and their captain Salma Agha (wait is that right? Actually I think it’s Salman Ali Agha? Or maybe Babar is captain? I’m confused but anyway!) They won the toss and decided to BOWL first. And everyone was like “WHYYYY?” Because the pitch in Colombo gets SLOWER and harder to bat in the second innings! And Pakistan has SO MANY good spinners! They should have batted first but they didn’t listen to me!

Then India came to bat and Ishan Kishan went CRAZY! He smashed 77 runs from only 40 balls! That’s like scoring a run every two seconds! He was hitting sixes and fours everywhere like he was playing video games on easy mode! India made 175 runs which is a very good score on that slow pitch.

Then when Pakistan batted, OH NO! Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya destroyed their top order in the powerplay! Wickets kept falling like dominoes! Pakistan got all out for only 114 runs in 18 overs. That’s so sad! My friend Ali, who likes Pakistan, didn’t come to school today. I think he is crying at home.

What Does This Mean for Pakistan's Qualification?

Okay so now let’s look at the points table like a puzzle! Group A has

What Pakistan Needs to Do Now?

Pakistan has ONE match left against Namibia on Wednesday. They HAVE to win! If they lose, they will stay on 4 points and USA also has 4 points but better net run rate so Pakistan goes home.

If they win, they will get 6 points and qualify for Super 8! Easy right? BUT WAIT – there is one more thing!

If the match against Namibia gets washed out by rain, Pakistan gets 1 point from no result and will have 5 points total! That’s even better than USA’s 4 points! So rain is Pakistan’s best friend now!

But if they win but win by very small margin, their net run rate might still be bad if USA also wins their last match? Actually USA has played all their matches already so Pakistan just needs to win OR have a washout. Simple!

You know what’s scary? India is just TOO GOOD! This was their 12th match unbeaten in T20 World Cups! They have only lost 1 match in the last FOUR big ICC tournaments (that’s 27 matches) and that was the 2023 ODI World Cup final!

Against Pakistan in World Cups, India has now won 16 matches and Pakistan only 1! That’s like 16-1! My friend Ali says “that’s not fair” but I say “that’s just facts!”

This was also India’s BIGGEST win over Pakistan in T20 format ever! 61 runs! Suryakumar Yadav’s team is just DOMINATING!

Pakistan vs Namibia on Wednesday is now the MOST IMPORTANT match for Pakistan! It’s like their final exam! If they pass, they go to Super 8. If they fail, they go home to watch on TV like us!

Namibia has lost all their matches so far so Pakistan SHOULD win easily. But in cricket, anything can happen! Remember when Italy beat Nepal? Shocks happen!

I think Pakistan will win because they have good players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi and they will be ANGRY after losing to India. Angry Pakistan is dangerous Pakistan!

You know what I think? This is why I love the World Cup! Every match matters, every run counts, and net run rate becomes SUPER important! Pakistan thought they was safe but now they is in trouble! That’s cricket baby!

My friend Ali is still sad but I told him “don’t worry, Pakistan will beat Namibia and qualify!” He said “you just want India to beat them again in Super 8” and I said “MAYBE!”

But honestly I want both teams to do well because India vs Pakistan matches are the BEST! Without Pakistan, Super 8 will be boring!
