The Indian cricket team is doing a big, big change in how they gets ready for the T20 World Cup, specially because they is gonna play Pakistan soon. They is practicing in a special way because the pitches where they plays, like in Colombo, is very slow and tricky. The ball doesn’t comes fast to the bat, so India wants their bowlers to bowls better and their batters to learns how to hits on these slow grounds.
At the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in New Delhi on a Tuesday night, something cools happened. The fast bowlers and the spin bowlers was splits into two different practice nets on each sides of the main field. For two whole hours, they just bowled and bowled as hard as they can. This is not normal in the middle of a big tournament, cause players usually saves their energy. But India really wants to wins! Lately, only the batters was in the news for hitting lots of sixes, but under the lights in Kotla, it was all about the bowlers working extra hard, just two days before they plays a match with Namibia.
Everybody from the team came to this tough practice, except for Abhishek Sharma. He has a sick tummy so he had to rests at home.

But really, this practice wasn’t just for the Namibia game. It looks like the Indian team is making a distinct change in their whole plan. Now that the match against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15 is finally confirmed (after lots of government talks), they needs to pay attentions to every little detail. Even though they got a big scare against USA last Saturday, the real tournament for India starts now from Sunday. The conditions in Colombo is very different from where India has been playing, and it’s gonna take up a lot of thinking in their heads.
The team’s assistant coach, a man named Ryan ten Doeschate who talks very straight, said something important on Tuesday. He said, “We knows about the big feelings and the different politics between India and Pakistan. But we thinks it’s really importants to just focus on the cricket part. It will be a big challenge going to Colombo, where Pakistan has been staying and playing for two weeks already. We is totally focused on bringing our best game for that match next week.”
The pitches in this whole tournament has not been good for making big scores so far. The pitch at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is specially slow and sluggish, and the Indian team’s smart peoples has definitely notices this. So now, there is a big urge to change from their usual plan of just hitting the ball super hard all the time. They thinks the pitches will get even more tired and slower as the tournament goes on, like how you gets tired after running a lot.
Coach Doeschate said, “Looking at how the pitches has played in the first five or six days, we might have to makes a little changes in our strategy. The pitches hasn’t been like how we thoughted they would be, and we wants to be able to adapt. We should has been much better than we was in Mumbai against USA. We has been trying to hit everything, but with these kind of pitches, you needs more technique too.” Then he started talking about the bowlers.
“I don’t thinks our bowlers has fired up yet,” Doeschate said. “It’s maybe a little bit easy to look at the USA game and say that was a good bowling, but you has to looks at it properly – where we putted the ball and how we used it. We expects a lot more from the bowlers too. Having these world-class bowlers in our team gives the batters the freedom to makes mistakes in this T20 format. If you is always trying to score 250 runs, you will makes mistakes. But we also needs to react to the situations in the game,” Doesc ehatexplained.

There is also a player named Washington Sundar who gives the team more choices. He just had his first practice after getting better from a rib injury he got a month ago. Now the team can starts thinking about different player combinations based on how the pitch is. “The luxury of having four all-rounders is that you can changes the combination. This is where Washington fits in perfectly,” said Doeschate.
With major clashes on the horizon, including the much-anticipated Pakistan vs India encounter in the T20 World Cup 2026, team combinations and bowling execution will come under even sharper scrutiny. High-pressure fixtures like this often expose tactical gaps, making consistent performances from both batters and bowlers absolutely crucial.
So, India is doing all this hard work and new thinking so they can beats Pakistan in the big match. They knows the pitch in Colombo is slow, so they is practicing how to play smart on it. They wants their bowlers to bowls really good lines and their batters to chooses the right balls to hit. It’s like studying really hard for a big test in school! Everyone is excited and a little nervous for the February 15 match. Will India’s new plan works? We has to wait and watch, but they is definitely trying their bests to win!
